Review:
Clinique has designed a daily 3-Step Skincare System for all skin types, from sensitive, dry, normal, combination to oily skin types. However, you can mix and match the products from the 3 steps to match your skin type and concerns. This review has done just that! I have slightly sensitive, dry to normal skin, which very rarely becomes oily in the T-Zone. However, I use the Liquid Facial Soap Extra Mild, which is designed for dry and sensitive skin, the Mild Clarifying Lotion, also for sensitive skin, and the Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel, which is advertised as being suitable for very oily skin types. So why have I chosen these 3 products instead of the products recommended for my skin (Clinique Skin Type 2)? Well, because I prefer the anti-irritating, alcohol-free and soothing ingredients in these products.
Clinique's Liquid Facial Soap - Extra Mild ($24.60) is a true lotion cleanser, and does not contain any detergent cleansing agents, and is therefore a great choice for someone with dry to very dry and sensitive skin. Cleansers tend to make my skin feel stripped, taught and dry, so I prefer a richer cream cleanser, and after cleansing with Clinique's Liquid Facial Soap Extra Mild, by skin is left feeling clean, smooth and moisturised. This is a non-foaming, soap free, fragrance free and very mild cream cleanser. It is full of beneficial ingredients, and you will definitely notice a difference in the way your skin looks and feels following cleansing. As it is detergent free, it is actually the oil content in this cleanser that dissolves makeup. However, for stubborn eye makeup, it is best to use a makeup remover, as this cleanser will not completely remove all traces of eye makeup. Due to the Liquid Facial Soap Extra Mild oil content, it is best to use dry, as the oil will dissolve makeup, and then rinse with water. This cleanser is packaged in a 200ml pump, and 1-2 pumps is more than enough to thoroughly remove makeup and cleanse your entire face.
Clinique's Mild Clarifying Lotion ($20.90) is the only of Clinique's Clarifying Lotions that is alcohol-free. This lotion also contains 0.5% salicylic acid at a pH level of 2.9, and it will therefore effectively exfoliate your skin, removing flaking and dull skin.The Mild Clarifying Lotion also contains some very good skin-identical ingredients, that will help balance your skin's natural moisture barrier. Clinique's Mild Clarifying Lotion is packaged in a frosted green bottle, and it has a thicker, gel-like consistency when compared to the other Clarifying lotions in the Clinique range. Ensure that you shake well before use, so as to mix the ingredients well before applying. Because this toner is alcohol free you will be left with a sticky feeling until the product is completely absorbed. Clinique's Mild Clarifying Lotion is mild, gentle, non-drying, non-irritating, does not sting or burn, and does not leave the skin looking red and feeling stripped of all moisture. As a toner, it also effectively removes any lingering traces of makeup. Overall, this Mild Clarifying Lotion leaves the skin feeling clean, hydrated and refreshed. Perfect for sensitive, dry, combination and slightly oily skin types not prone to acne!
Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel ($39.10) is a welcome addition to Clinique's Dramatically Different Lotion, which has a very basic formula. The Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel is 100% fragrance-free, does not contain any oils or heavy thickening agents and is great for normal to slightly dry or oily skin. The formula is more a lotion than a gel, and it feels light and silky on the skin, and is absorbed almost immediately so you don't have to wait very long before applying your makeup. Skin is left feeling immediately hydrated, soft and smooth, and works as the perfect base for makeup. For many years, my skin felt dry and dehydrated, and I had always thought that the only way to combat this dry feeling was to use thick, heavy and emollient creams. I was very wrong and the thick and heavy creams, while making my skin feel smooth, did absolutely nothing for my dry and dehydrated skin. After my first application of Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel, my skin instantly felt hydrated, and it stayed that way the whole day. Within a week of using this gel every morning, my skin felt supple and plump, and dehydration lines that I tried so hard to get rid of, had disappeared. The only down-side to this moisturiser is that it does not contain any SPF, so I always follow with a sunscreen by day. Alternatively, for oilier skin types, using a foundation or tinted moisturiser with SPF will ensure that you are protecting your skin from the suns harmful rays. Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel is high recommended for anyone with combination skin that can be both slightly dry to slightly oily.
Verdict: Clinique's 3-Step Skincare System provides you with a basic daily skincare routine, and by cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising on a daily basis, the effects of getting skin on a good daily routine become apparent. Within a week of using Clinique's 3-Step Skincare System, your skin will look and feel healthier and fresher. Surface flakes and dullness are also less noticeable. With consistent use of the 3-Step Skincare System, skin looks more radiant as twice-daily exfoliation begins to regulate the natural cell-renewal process. Over time, drier skins feel more comfortable, and oilier skins are less prone to breakouts. You will also find that moisture sinks in faster, as the dead cells on the surface are removed on a daily basis allowing the younger and fresher cells to absorb moisture more easily, creating a stronger moisture barrier. The results? Your skin is better equipped to resist free radical damage and you will be left with a even, refined and radiant complexion. For great results, ensure that you are using the cleanser, clarifying lotion and moisturiser for your skin type and that does not contain any potentially irritating ingredients, that can cause problems for even the best skins. I use the 3-Step Skincare System every morning, however, at night I replace the Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel with a serum, moisturiser or treatment product that is full of antioxidants and anti-ageing ingredients.
